Emperor’s Birthday in Japan

Emperor’s birthday in Japan  called “Tennou Tanjobi”, is a public holiday celebrated on the birthday of the current emperor. Emperor Akihito’s birthday was on December 23rd and it was a public holiday from 1989 to 2018.
In April 2019, Emperor Akihito abdicated and his eldest son Emperor Naruhito succeeded the throne.

Emperor Naruhito’s birthday which is on February 23rd, is now the date of the Emperor’s Birthday holiday from 2020. This year will be the second year that there wont be any public birthday event for Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
