The historic village of Shirakawago is one of the most scenic and historic villages of Japan located in Gifu prefecture. It was registered as UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995 and it is popular for the Gassho-zukuri
(thatched and steep roofs) traditional farmhouses.
Shirakawago trip is enjoyable all through the year since it has beautiful views throughout the four seasons. Though the most popular season is winter because of the amazing view of the thatched roofs of the farmhouses covered with snow.
