Otaru Canal, Hokkaido

When it is hot in summer people are likely to go to cool places. Hokkaido in the north of Japan is one of the best destinations in summer as it is cooler than other places and you can enjoy majestic rural landscapes and fields of flowers there. Otaru is also one of the popular places in Hokkaido. It served as a major trade and fishing port from the early days of Hokkaido’s colonization in the late 1800s.

In the beginning of 20th century, Otaru Canal was a central part of the city’s busy port which ships were transporting the goods to warehouses along the canal.
Now those warehouses have changed to museums, shops and restaurants. It is so pleasant to walk along the canal or taking a boat through the canal.
